The vast majority of IAFF members are covered by public-sector (state or federal government) labor laws. However, those members and agencies that are in the private sector (non-government) are covered under the National Labor Relations Act.
Under the National Labor Relations Act, if a union is alleged to have violated the law, an unfair labor practice charge can be filed with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB).
